This is a test…

This is only a test. Had there been a real emergency I would have told you to run like hell into the street and cause a national panic.

Actually we used a massive amount of server load (I think it said 231% of the processor’s capability, however that’s possible) and there’s a little file that does something that doesn’t need to be done with EVERY page load because the wordpress people aren’t as clever as they could be, and well, this site is the main offender of the group of sites I run, even though it doesn’t really use the file much at all.

So I’ve disabled it. Let’s see it mess with my server traffic load now. Huh? How you like that one, file? How you like it?

Ch-ch-changes

I’m looking at increasing the effectiveness of the blog, and so that brings some fresh ideas.

First, I’m adding some advertising. I wouldn’t usually, but that Donate button isn’t clicking itself. I’m going to do my best to make the ads positive things. I flirted with google adsense, and found the ads that were popping up were for gun training and find sex offenders and casinos and things, and that didn’t sit well with me. I couldn’t block those ads well enough to be comfortable, so adsense had a brief ten minute appearance on the site. I have found a new network that has put up some good ones, blood drives, exercise, anti-drugs. Those are the things I’d go for. I’ll be very sensitive to these things, and if you see what you like, please go ahead and click.

In order to further this good energy, I’m going to start looking for companies and organizations who are doing good things in new creative ways and do some articles on them. I hope that will give some extra exposure to good people. The first might be my Gearsecure.net site, but after that, we’ll see what we find. If you have suggestions, please let me know.

Third, there will be more editorial content with the same amount of links collections. I’m planning a big series on health care, and more topics will come along.

I want to know what you think. Please leave me a message.

More op-eds

Now that I’ve been able to get some of my larger distractions out of the way, I’m going to be putting a lot more focus on my sharp op-eds and original content. Keep an eye out for this in the next few days. News Shots will continue as they have been, those were intended to be a supplement to the op-ed content, not the focus of the site.

Thanks for sticking with me so far, and I’ll be jumping on backs soon.

Completely non-political post

So at work, we had to send in a picture of our lighting truss. Halfway through encoding the image, the camera got his by a moving laser beam. The result is half image of the live room truss, half lens flare that would make J.J. Abrams green with envy.

Unexpected server migration

Yes, I think it’s heading back north for the spring. I always know winter is over when I see the first server in the back yard picking at the worms.

Actually, my host changed our server this weekend, and that’s why I didn’t get anything out. Sorry. I’ll try to get some new material up in a couple days.
