Take your Pill 8/29/09

Bill Moyer Health Care and Human Rights

If we lose the health care debate, we lose it to cowards who use lies and fear to support big insurance companies while millions suffer. And we do it because we defended the details of policies to people who wouldn’t listen while we ignored human compassion and morals (that’s me, not Bill).

Meet the Opposition

It’s either political eugenics by the Democrats or a bullshit conspiracy theory from the Republicans

The RNC sent out a survey that implied they believe voting records could be used to discriminate on health care. While this conspiracy theory can only be the product of of an abundantly twisted imagination, I’m a big believer in our wildest fantasies telling us what we are capable of. Democrats have a wild fantasy of providing healthcare for millions of Americans, and Republicans have a wild fantasy of Nazi tactics, death panels, and discrimination based on political affiliation. You be the judge.

Michael Steele on the spot on NPR

Otherwise known as doing the dance around his own doublespeak. Steve Innskeep just won’t let up. Very amusing.

I enjoy how Michael Steele talks about creative interpretation from the left of things he says, while his side comes up with “Death Panels” out of end of life counseling. Funny thing is, the Democrats interpretation seems like far less of a stretch. Really this is worth listening to.

The rest of the town hall meeting with Barney Frank. This is freaking awesome

As good as stand-up.

How We’re Blowing it

The illegal immigrant conundrum

Obama says definitively “no health coverage for illegals”. I believe this is right. However, I believe in treating emergencies of anybody that walks in to an ER. Seems only humane. But the bill as it stands eliminated a call for proof of citizenship, and this opens up the system for abuse. The Republicans are calling this “subsidized health care for illegals.”

Of course, proof of citizenship would likely mean a call for some sort of national ID system, and that would be a socialist plot to enslave us all, and an infringement to our libertarian selves.

I wonder where in the debate foreign nationals here legally stand. In Japan and many other countries they are merely treated, but those are single payer systems that aren’t looking for commercial upkeep, and provide way better care than ours for less money, so what am I talking about?

God Hates Republicans

You want proof?

Let’s re-wind to the RNC. Here’s what they had to do to have a hope of looking, um, let’s say, um, competent: keep people from remembering the failures of Dubya. What happened? Hurricane Gustav, coming for New Orleans and looking like a Cat 4.

Next, let’s go to Bobby Jindal’s Ill-fated response to Obama’s speech on the stimulus package. What did he question? $140 million for volcano monitoring systems. This from the guy who is the Governor of Louisiana, a veritable target of natural disasters and ecological mis-management. What happened that week? Mount Redoubt erupts in Alaska, Sarah Palin’s home state. Call that a two-fer.

Now, here’s the kicker. During the Stimulus spending debate, the Republicans, led by Karl Rove, stripped the bill, very vocally, in fact, of $900 mil for Flu Pandemic preparedness. From Mexico. Which will likely cross the border in Texas.

Consider this divine ironic intervention. If you believe in such things.

Federal Judge Quits For not getting a Pay Raise

Probably better off not having somebody this out of touch with the state of the world as a judge. $169k wasn’t enough this year I guess.

Cleric who said Hurricane Katrina was God’s punishment for homosexuality is made bishop by Vatican

Obama might not be the anti-christ, but this Pope is sure showing signs. I love people who believe this, because it shows how hateful and blind to reality they are. The gays got out of New Orleans before Katrina, and poor Christians were the ones left to suffer, and people like this won’t even recognize this. It’s about as intelligent as not believing in the holocaust.Perfect! He also calls the Harry Potter books Satanic. What a winner.

It’s official, it’s a meme

Christina Romer responds to the Republican’s use of her arguments

She says that they interpreted her wrong, and that spending on projects produces far more jobs than tax cuts. Here’s the way I see it. Taxes get cut, money is spent on things made overseas, meaning money goes overseas, and jobs are made elsewhere. Spend on infrastructure, well, it’s not like you’re going to make a bridge in China and put it on a boat.

Well, Kentucky is a RED state

Kentucky’s ice storm is not being responded to fast enough.

This is the guy the RNC picked to lead them?

News haul

Three more months of annoying commercials?

The Senate is still afraid of the DTV switch. They think that after 6 months of commercials and news on every TV station, some people might not be ready. The people who are not ready at this point are either world-class procrastinators or NOT WATCHING THEIR TELEVISION. That or they have been skipping over the commercials on their DVRs. We’re only like 15 years behind the Japanese on this one. Let’s hope the House votes it down again.

George Carlin’s FBI files

My favorite part is where they call him an “Alleged comedian”.

The Republicans found a Black Man in their ranks…

It’s almost like they’re saying “See, we’ve got one too.” Looks like they found their own magic Negro.

Right up to the eve of his victorious race, Mr. Steele faced down vicious, often anonymous accusations that he lacks a philosophical or ideological core and is really a social liberal.

On Thursday night, RNC members found under the door of their hotel rooms a one-page flier with the picture of a toilet-paper roll unspooling at top of the page and the headline: “Soft is fine for toilet paper but not for a chairman of the Republican National Committee.”

Good to see they haven’t lost their touch.

…And he waits a whole day before saying something stupid

“You and I know that in the history of mankind and womankind, government—federal, state or local—has never created one job,” he said. “It’s destroyed a lot of them.”

I’m not the only one who noticed

The Republicans have become obstinate about anything the Democrats once. Sore Losers. Pussies.

He’s from the Kenyan Obamas.

Scott McClellan continues to be my hero.

Barack the Magic Negro is good news

Republican National Committee chairman candidate Chip Saltzman sent out a CD with a song called “Barack the Magic Negro”. I’m guessing it is sung to “Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer”. Apparently the CD was sent to RNC bigwigs who don’t see anything wrong, and since his martyrdom at the hands of the vast liberal media conspiracy, might have come out better rather than worse.

I have to say this is good news for Democrats, as it shows the louts who run the Republicans haven’t gotten any smarter than they were Nov. 4th, and so we can expect 4 years of more Democratic gains.

Also, lout is a great word.
